Battery Help
You’re reading this because you are considering buying a replacement camcorder or digital camera battery pack for your brand new or valued gadget and may be a little unsure about whether you should spend more and buy the original manufacturers battery. You may be thinking about the following:

1. How do I find the correct battery?
2. The cameras user guide warns me that only the manufacturer’s battery will work.
3. Will a compatible battery damage my camera?
4. You have seen more than one suitable battery and don’t know how to decide.
5. Will my original charger work with a compatible battery?

1. How do I find the correct battery? You need to know some basic information regarding the current battery you are using. If you remove the battery from the camcorder or digital camera you will find information on the base plate of the battery if it’s for a camcorder and one of the two sides of the battery if it’s for a digital camera.

The battery to the left is a digital camera battery manufactured by Panasonic and it's specification is clearly visible on one side of the battery.

You can see that the model number is DMW-BCE10PP, the voltage is 3.6 volts and the mAh rating is 1000mAh

The battery to the left is a camcorder battery manufactured by Canon and the information regarding the battery's specification can be seen on the base plate.

You can see that the model number is NB-2L12, the voltage is 7.4 volts and the mAh rating is 1300mAh.

Now let’s say you are looking for a replacement Canon camcorder battery for the one above to the left. Click the "Camcorder Batteries" link over to the far left of the site. There you will see a list of manufacturers and you need to click on the "Canon" button. You will then be taken to a page that displays all of the Canon camcorder batteries model numbers. Just click on the button that says NB-2L12 and any suitable batteries for this model number will be displayed.

2. The cameras user guide warns me that only the manufacturer’s battery will work.
Some manufacturers, mainly Sony and Panasonic use technology within their batteries that match the device and try and prevent compatible batteries working with the device. The manufacturers we use to supply our batteries spend a lot of time and effort into making sure that the products work in exactly the same way as the original batteries. Our batteries do work and where our suppliers have not yet cracked the coding, we don’t sell or display the battery.

3. Will a compatible battery damage my camera?
The answer is no. Our batteries are supplied by Energizer, Hahnel and Inov8 and we have been supplying batteries since 2001 without one incident of causing damage.

4. You have seen more than one suitable battery and don’t know how to decide.
The main factor to consider when buying a new battery is the mAh rating as it is this that determines how long your camera will run for on one charge. The higher the mAh rating, the more run time you get from every charge. Usually, as the mAh rating increases so does the cost.

5. Will my original charger work with a compatible battery?
Yes, you will not need to buy a new battery charger as the one that came with your camera will charge our batteries in exactly the same manner.

We hope that the above has been of some use to you and please do let us know if you think of something that we should mention.
